The University of Colombo teamed up with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Services Provider to introduce mLearning, an innovative concept for the provision of a new gateway to higher education. ‘mLearning’ also known as Mobile Learning is the teaching and learning process through the use of mobile and hand held devices such as mobile phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), laptops and tablet Personal Computers. A brain child of the University of Colombo, mLearning is set to break through traditional boundaries as well as address traditional learning shortcomings by utilizing advanced technology. Professor S. S. M. K. Kshanika Hirimburegama, Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo said, “I am very keen on this project due to the tremendous potential it carries which even could be extended to rural or any part of the country. This is an ideal solution to the problem of limited capacity and resources within Universities.” Story link
